With our extruders, tubes and pipes are manufactured for medical applications.
Medical tubes made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) offer some clear advantages that make them particularly suitable for many applications:
1. High chemical resistance
PTFE reacts with virtually no chemicals. This is important for:
- aggressive medications
- disinfectants
- laboratory media
-> The tube remains stable and does not release any substances.
2. Very good biocompatibility
PTFE is well tolerated by the body:
- barely attacked by the immune system
- ideal for catheter or implant applications
3. Extremely smooth surface
- reduces friction → facilitates insertion (e.g., in catheters)
- prevents deposits of blood, proteins, or bacteria
-> Lower risk of blockages or infections.
4. Temperature resistance
- withstands both very high and very low temperatures
- can be easily sterilized (e.g., autoclaving)
5. Low adhesion (non-stick effect)
- liquids hardly adhere
- facilitates cleaning and prevents residues
6. High electrical insulation capability
Relevant for certain medical devices or sensor cables.
In short:
PTFE tubes are ideal when purity, chemical stability, and safety are crucial – for example, in infusion technology, laboratory medicine, or special catheters.

With R&K extruders, tubes are manufactured by leading medical manufacturers.
